Jinul jacket J.2121 | PDF Sewing Pattern
Jinul jacket J.2121 | PDF Sewing Pattern
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
DESCRIPTION: The generous Jinul box jacket is unlined and features voluminous square sleeves and generous sized pockets that are inset into the gusset side panel of the jacket. The symmetrical design has a diagonal cut front which features a band to create detail and allows the garment to cross over the body. The jacket has no fastenings, but as an additional alteration to the pattern, you could make a wide belt to wrap around the waist and cinch in the silhouette. This jacket can be worn over dresses and tops in both summer and winter and can be made from a variety of fabric weights. The garment on the cover and included in the step-by-step instructions has been made in mid-weight linen with ¾ sleeve length.
NOTIONS:
✁ Matching sewing thread.
✁ Hand stitching needle + wax for thread.
✁ Optional interlining for the neckband if your fabric is light or soft. (1m for all sizes)
SEAM ALLOWANCES AND FABRIC EDGE FINISHING: All seam allowances are 1.2cm, unless otherwise noted. To finish the edges of your fabric you can use an overlocker (3 thread), zig-zag or suggested edging stitch that is available on your machine. *For advanced sewers, binding seams or lining the Kimono Jacket are another options.
FABRICS: Summer weights: Cotton, linen, chambray, wool, denim, silk or stable light to mid weight woven fabrics. This pattern will work well with sheer fabrics, but depending on the opacity of the fabric, you may wish to omit the pocket. Winter weights: Mid-weight Denim, Wool crepe and Worsted wool suiting. For winter weights consider adding a lining for a more luxurious feel and warmth.
ALTERATIONS TO THE PATTERN: This garment can be lengthened to be worn as a longer style jacket/coat, and the sleeves can be shortened to make a ¾ sleeve length version. In addition, if you have leftover fabric, make a belt that can be tied at the waist. To lengthen or shorten, use the lines indicated on the pattern. For a shorter style jacket, you may wish to omit the pocket, or shorten the depth of the pocket bag so it does not hang longer than the jacket hem.
ENHANCING YOUR SEWING SKILLS: This pattern will help you gain new skills in using top-stitching as a decorative finish and attaching neckbands to neckline edges.
TIME TO MAKE: As an estimate this garment will take you 6-9 hours to make depending on your sewing confidence level. *It is suggested that you make a toile of this pattern in calico or muslin (or a fabric similar to what you have selected to use in the final garment) to personalize fit/length, and practice sewing techniques.
