Seam Allowance Values

  • Yes these are already added to your sewing pattern! Most seam allowance values used are 1.2cm (12mm). In some instances, patterns may use other seam values, such as stretch patterns, 1cm (10mm). All patterns come with seam allowances added.
  • Each pattern piece will indicate the seam allowance value to be used and the finished hem width. You are welcome to alter these seam allowance values if you prefer a different type of finish such as a bound or French seam.

  • Depending on the style you are making, you may need to trim some excess fabric off necklines, cords and ties after sewing; the Sewing Instructions will guide you through this process and indicate the amount of fabric to be trimmed. Trimming off excess fabric helps to reduce bulk to some seams and allows the fabric to sit flatter.
