Tutoring services
Are you keen to learn more about the fashion industry or gather some skills in fashion/textile design, drape, flat patternmaking or sewing construction? We can create online private tutorials or workshops tailored for you or a small group of friends.
Our rates are: A$100 per hour for up to 3 people to join in the tutorial or workshop. Minimum of 2 hours per tutorial or workshop.
Ideas for workshop topics: (a list of tools and material required will be arranged for you to purchase in advance)
- Basic sewing essentials
- Introduction to the sewing machine, tools and material required
- Basic seams and finishes
- How to follow and sew a basic pattern suitable for beginners - men's or women's
- Estimated time 8 week x 2 hours each week.
- Introduction to flat patternmaking (using industry standard size pattern blocks) *Prior basic sewing knowledge is beneficial.
- What is flat-patternmaking, tools and material required
- Basic pattern blocks, seam allowance values
- How to alter darts
- Creating panel lines
- Basic sleeve alternations and collar patterns
- Estimated time 8 week x 2 hours each week.
- Introduction to draping/moulage (you will need access to a mannequin with a fabric covering to drape on) *Prior basic sewing knowledge is beneficial.
- What is draping, tools and materials required
- Understanding fabric grain-lines, handle and fall
- Draping a basic fitted top
- Transferring draped fabric of top to make a paper pattern to sew
- Sewing the top, making adjustments to the pattern
- Experimental draping form using pre-manipulated fabric
- Estimated time 8 week x 2 hours each week.
